Blind Toddler from India Needs Help from Nashville

Nashville, TN (PRWeb) November 29, 2006 -- Four year-old Kajal, living in a shelter in Allahabad, India, was purposely blinded by her step-mother and abandoned at a train station in India in June 2006. Now in the care of the Society of Underpriveledged People (SOUP) in India, her caretakers reach out to Nashville's own Dr. Ming Wang for help for Kajal.

Dr. Ming Wang is the founder of the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization that helps severely corneal blind patients undergo new sight restoration surgeries, performed free of charge. The foundation has attracted patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and from 55 countries worldwide, and Dr. Wang performed the world's first laser artificial cornea implantation surgery. He published a paper in the world renowned journal Nature and holds a US patent for an invention of a new biotechnology to restore sight in the terminally corneal blind patients.

Dr. Wang explained that since Kajal has 4th degree severe chemical burn to both of her eyes with severe scarring and neovascularization, all traditional corneal surgeries will not work. Her only hope to ever regain her vision is through the new surgery, femtosecond laser-assisted artificial cornea implantation, a technique that was developed here at Wang Vision Institute and is currently available in the world only at the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration here in Nashville, TN.

Kajal's surgery would cost an estimated $85,000-$100,000 for sight restoration surgeries and care. Dr. Wang has agreed to donate his entire medical and surgical services, and the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration will cover all hospital expenses for Kajal.

The only stall is raising funds for costly travel/lodging (6-12 months) from India for 4-year-old Kajal and her caretaker. The estimated travel/lodging expenses from her village in India are $30,000-$40,000.

Kajal has a bright smile, a sparkling, loving personality and her teachers with SOUP believe that she is extremely bright, possibly brilliant. Blinded by her step-mother and left alone at a train station, unfed, and in shock for a week, she is now part of the SOUP family and has a chance at a better life through regaining her vision.

Won't you please donate to the Wang Foundation today? Please indicate that your donation is for Helping Kajal. Donations may be sent to:
