Journalist Publishes Children's Book About Hurricane Preparedness

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) June 18, 2008 -- Like many South Florida residents, Andrea Rollin has seen her share of hurricanes. She has also witnessed the lack of preparedness that can be seen each time one of these storms hits. As a writer who loves children, she saw an opportunity to provide children with information about hurricanes, in the form of an entertaining, enjoyable book. Rollin's book, "The Tales of Teddy Fitzbear-Book One: The Hurricane" covers the steps to take when a hurricane is forecast and how to get through it safely?from the mouth of, yes, a friendly teddy bear.

"I think I'll put all my supplies out on the kitchen counter now" says Teddy, "just in case the electricity goes out." (excerpt)

As hurricane season approaches, parents and teachers (of students grades 1 through 5) will find this book to be a valuable learning tool, teaching hurricane lingo and steps to take.

"My purpose in writing this book was to help teach kids hurricane preparedness in a positive, reassuring way," Rollin, of Boca Raton, explains. "A hurricane is a frightening experience for children and adults, and the Teddy Fitzbear story stresses the importance of understanding hurricanes, so that children can deal with them more calmly, and more safely."

Rollin, a journalist who writes as a Special Correspondent for the Sun-Sentinel, as well as for other local publications, is currently promoting her book; she is busy scheduling book signings at local libraries and book stores. "I have to start small, and then spread out beyond Boca Raton," she comments.

Schools or community groups wishing to order copies of the book may log on to www.teddyfitzbear.com or contact her directly at e-mail: andrea_rollin@yahoo.com or phone: 561-338-9725. Rollin looks forward to writing more books that inform children about natural disasters.
