Imagination Creation: New Children's Book Shows Kids No Limits to Self-Made Fun

Denver and Trumbull, CT (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- In a world dominated by electronic diversions and ready-made entertainment, a lavishly illustrated new children's book from author Toula Magi reminds youngsters of the recreation residing right inside of them: their imaginations.

Just launched by Outskirts Press and now available through the author's Web Page at www.outskirtspress.com/ToulaMagi, the aptly named "What Can We Do Next? The Adventures of Lexie and Lolly" introduces Lexie, a little girl whose boredom on a rainy day is answered by the creation of an imaginary friend. She names him Lolly, in honor of her love of lollipops, and soon the unlikely duo are embarking on an itinerary of exciting adventures: a hot air balloon ride, a picnic, a shuttle trip to the moon, even a pirate's trip to hunt for buried treasure! Suddenly, a rainy day is no longer a wet blanket as Lexie realizes there are no boundaries or limitations as to what she can do, if she uses her imagination.

It's a message that's more important than ever for today's youth. According to a 2005 Kaiser Family Foundation study, children ages 8-18 spend about 44.5 hours a week watching TV, on the computer or playing video games--more time than any other activity, except sleeping. And research shows childhood obesity increases in direct proportion to consumption of electronic media.

"Without outdoor items such as swing sets, skateboards, bikes, etc., or indoor items such as TVs, computers, video games, etc., children don't know what to do with themselves when it's raining or if they don't have somewhere to go," says Magi.

The trick to countering such trends is getting kids to recognize the power of their own creative capabilities for fun, whether it's raining or not. In "What Can We Do Next?" gorgeous, full-color illustrations provide a rich environment for readers to picture the worlds their minds can take them. Magi has also incorporated colors, numbers and letters into the story, a perfect learning tool for toddlers and preschool children. But the book also has enough excitement for kindergarten-aged children and beyond.

"What Can We Do Next" is now available through Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and the online bookstore of Outskirts Press, at outskirtspress.com/store.php.
