Neck Deep in Toys? Here's How to Organize Your Children's Toys to the Rescue
A fun playroom will give children fond memories, and help them learn and explore their interests as they grow. A disaster of a play area makes it difficult for your children to play, and will probably drive you to the loony bin. Using some organization techniques and a little discipline, you can restore order to the playroom. These three important steps will help you make your children's play area a place of learning and fun, for both them and you.
* Storage and Labeling. Sort your children's toys, and put them into plastic containers with lids. This will allow for easy cleanup and is hundreds of times better than using large, catch all toy boxes. These just become cauldrons of junk, rather than convenient storage. Label the containers with text for older children, and pictures from magazines or the internet for younger kids. A set of plastic shelves may work good to store your containers in an orderly fashion.
* Activity Centers. Set up themed play locations inside the playroom. Make a corner the place for art related play. Another area could be for dress up, and another for cars and trucks. This will allow your children to be less likely to intermix toys, and create a big mess.
* Establish Cleanup Rules. This is probably the hardest and most important step when it comes to having a pleasant playroom. Children should know the rules about playtime, and cleanup time. Use a list for older kids, and use a rhyme or song for young ones. These values will go with them for the rest of their life, and they will be blessed by them.
A properly organized playroom is a joy for children and parents. A mess of a play area is a headache for the adults, and not much fun for the kids either. A little work and discipline can make the area magical for you and your kids.
