About the Book (Excerpts & Info)

For generations, Tejano families have passed down stories from Abuelita to mama (grandmother to mother). The families would gather to hear stories of humor or about familia (family) from a local storyteller, known to the children as La Historieta. This is one of those stories. The storyteller tells of a group of people who played a very important part in the making of Texas.

In this story, La Historieta, narrates her story as she takes you on a journey from the very beginning of Texas to the present, focusing on the valuable contributions made by a very special group of people, known as Tejanos (Mexican-Americans, Texans).

About the Author

Olga Rivera Lasher was born and raised in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Her desire to write this book stems from her passion and love of Texas.

Wanting to preserve her heritage for her children and grandchildren, Olga combines the rich and wonderful history of Texas with the equally rich Tejano (Texas-Mexican) history. She does not take away from what is already acknowledged and taught, but masterfully adds what has been left out of many stories about Texas. By combining the two, Olga has weaved a story that the children will find exciting and educational.

Olga is presently working on two fictional novels. One, about the many generations of one woman's family, an Indian guide to the Spanish Explorers and the other about the life and trials of one controversial Texas woman who struggles to maintain her land in early Texas in spite of the criticisms she had to endure from other settlers because of her self reliance as a Texas Patrona.
