A "Ham-tastic" New Children's Book by Entrepreneur and Breast Cancer Survivor Urges Children to "Treasure Your Youth"?

Denver, CO and Hebron, CT (PRWEB) September 15, 2007 -- Concerned with the grim statistics regarding the health and sedentary lifestyle of America's children, author, entrepreneur, outdoor enthusiast, and breast cancer survivor Donna Raheb has created a story that encourages children to get out, explore life, and to "Treasure Your Youth."? The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta is a quirky tale of two little girls who accidentally fall down a chute at a canning facility and wind up as canned hams.

It is no secret that America's children are at risk because of their sedentary lifestyles and poor eating habits. According to the New York Times, "For the first time in two centuries, the current generation of children in America may have shorter life expectancies than their parents" (March 17, 2005). Author Donna Raheb, trying to find a way to help reverse this trend, has created a new picture book character, Henrietta Ham. Henrietta and her best friend Tanya inspire young children to get out of the house and explore the outdoors in The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta.

What makes this book unique is that Henrietta and Tanya are hams. Yes, you read that right. Hams.

Through a bizarre accident, these seven-year-old little girls fall into the chutes at a canned ham factory and are pressed into canned hams. Fortunately for all concerned, Henrietta's parents purchase two cans of ham at the end of the tour--the two that hold Henrietta and Tanya. But what's to happen to the girls when they are taken to the house? Will Momma be cooking them for dinner? Here's where the real adventure begins:

Suddenly, one of the hams in the pan begins to jiggle and jumps to her feet. She calls out, "Henrietta!" as she nudges the other ham.

Wiggling to get free, Henrietta exclaims, "Tanya, look at all the fruits stuck to you!"

Tanya plucks off a cherry and pops it into her mouth. "Mmm, tasty." Then Tanya says, "You look like one of those hams that comes in a can! We don't look human anymore!"

Momma Terri, hearing the commotion, starts after the jiggling and wiggling hams in the pan.

"Run!" cries Henrietta.

"Before we get cooked for dinner!" shouts Tanya?

After escaping the house, Henrietta and Tanya forget their worries and find themselves exploring the wilderness in their own backyard. The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta, the first book of what promises to be a popular new series, provides children with an outlet for good, clean, and informative fun, while inspiring a healthy trend back to outdoor adventure.
